Raw Cutz is a fresh project conceived by 2 individuals who between them have over 35 years experience using and releasing world class and highly regarded sample packs for Producers, DJs and musicians worldwide.

 

Erik Svahn is the man responsible for 2 Iconical Sample companies, E-Lab which produced such ground breaking titles including the ultra chilled and influential “Smokers Delight” one of the best selling releases of the 20th Century, alongside others including the famous “X-Static Goldmine” series – which inspired many early dance records worldwide. Eriks next project was to establish Equipped Music which had fantastic success with “Premier Beats” one of the best regarded hip hop sample libraries to date, “Loungin House”, “Breakbeat Jazz” and “Slo-Motion Tokyo Soundscapes” amongst others.

Erik has always crafted loops & samples with care and attention, but his prime concern is always “the vibe”, and he goes to great lengths to ensure that producers using his loops are always inspired to make new tracks from the sounds that he presents in his collections, probably why Propellerheads asked him to make the soundbank for the first incarnation of the Reason software. Noise, feedback, swing, feel and background interference are all utilized and influences come from Hip Hop, Deep House, Jazz and dusty, broken instruments.

 

The second half of the Raw Cutz equation is Matt Pelling, the guy behind Loopmasters which is currently one of the leading sample labels and distribution portals for sounds. The Loopmasters label is responsible for some great releases and have worked with artists including Mad Professor, Coldcut, Steve Lawler, Hospital Records, Marshall Jefferson, Jody Wisternoff, Freemasons, A Guy Called Gerald, Hank Shocklee, Ray Keith and many more besides. Loopmasters have also worked with and supplied sounds for Native Instruments, Akai, Novation, Ableton, Serato and many other influential music companies worldwide.

Matt's influences range from Dub, Bass House, Drum & Bass, Breaks, Jazz and Hip Hop. He plays drums and regularly produces his own brand of leftfield electronic experimentation.

Together Erik and Matt have formed Raw Cutz, and hope this site will inspire musicians old and new to make exciting Hip Hop, House, Drum and Bass and other experimental forms using some of the inspirational sounds, swung beats, processed kits and found sounds that Raw Cutz and its Producers will be releasing regularly on this imprint.
